The Clubheads x Rankd

The rough-and-ready garage-punk trio bring their debut album to the main stage...
Admittedly we’re a little late to the bandwagon, but The Clubheads debut album ‘You Should Hang Around’ released late August – and it’s an 11-track non-stop hard-hitter. After being invited along to the celebratory release show at The Hope and Ruin, we caught up with Luke, Ed and Kal before the doors flung open on a bustling Thursday evening – and absorbed the chaotic energy of Brighton’s most exciting garage-punk project to surface in recent years…
Despite the ear-rattling ambience of the busy bar area, we parked ourselves on the eccentrically carved bathtub seat nestled in a quiet alcove away from the chaos – a perfect spot to discuss the album and the three close-knit friends behind it. We unpacked the track-list decision process, the bands biggest pet peeves, and their journey so far, amongst plenty more BTS exclusives during the early days of this undeniably exciting project.
Driving distorted, hook-centred sounds around a vocal reminiscent of Soft Play, the outfit pull together a multitude of tracks with one clear takeaway – they know how to craft a track without taking themselves two seriously. With the playful ‘Kal’s Fried Chicken Made Me Ill’, paired with the fiery ‘Vanilla Killa’ – the band pull from personal experiences, and frankly any topic they deem song-worthy. It’s no surprise to hear that they’re sat on stacks of unreleased material, and with their freshly-pressed debut out in the public domain, the trio are already looking ahead to what’s next…
