PUSSYLIQUOR YOUNG LOVE FRESH BLOOD REVIEW: Blood Soup for the Riot Grrrl Soul.

As Brighton/London five piece PUSSYLIQUOR’s meteoric rise to superstardom continues, it feels more precinct to ask what won’t they do next. Since the drop of ‘it’s PUSSYLIQUOR, not rocket science’, which cemented their brand of blistering punk and hardcore sound with biting social criticism, the band have gone worldwide: playing in Japan and becoming the first European band to play Taiwan Music Festival.

At present, ahead of their set at Boomtown’s Hangar 161 in August, PUSSYLIQUOR have dropped something truly special.

Their new track YOUNG LOVE FRESH BLOOD is a brutal, searing commentary on heteropatriarchy. The sound is harsh and seething in all the right ways: frontwoman Ari Black’s vocals are gritty and powerful, the riffs are fresh but referential, and the music video, which subverts the pastel visuals of a porno-esque hotdog eating contest in glorious, gory fashion, is a breath of fresh air.

In a world where female and non-binary peoples’ worth is often still seen as intrinsically linked to how sexy an old man might find them, and the old adage of ‘boys will be boys’ remains prevalent, PUSSYLIQUOR’s brand of ‘trauma inspired media formed into listenable art with visual aid’ is more than refreshing in the present moment: it is vital.

‘When bad things happen, art is the benefactor to processing and healing. In this disembodied world, music can become something meaningful, powerful and grounding.’

Listen to PUSSYLIQUOR’s newest release ‘YOUNG LOVE FRESH BLOOD’ out now – and catch them at Blackpool’s ‘Rebellion Festival‘ this August!
