The hair-raising, mullet-taming glam of Pleasure Hunt
Jed Hughes’ latest project, ‘Pleasure Hunt’, sets him apart from ‘bedfellows’, ‘Boolin” and other local bands from his formative years, lifting the covers on a sound that nods to 80’s glam, hair metal and hard rock, while paving the roads for an audiovisual feast that doesn’t shy away from energetic solos, chunky basslines and the occasional softer, synth-led ballad.
With a debut live show back in September 2025, Jed has spent no time waiting to flesh-out his discography, releasing the debut EP ‘Hunting Through Hell’ back in October ’25 in collaboration with Brighton’s finest – HotWax‘s Alfie on drums, Small Pond‘s Alessandro and Sarah on the mix/master, and tattoo artist @delargetattoos designing the dynamic artwork that showcases Pleasure Hunt’s sonic identity before you’ve even pressed play.
This left listeners wondering… After such a striking debut, what comes next?
‘Condominium’ and a falsetto-rich b-side ‘Missed Opportunities’ hit the public domain earlier this month, marking a sidestep into a new chapter for Pleasure Hunt. Continuing the existing string of hard-rock nostalgia and playful glam that has come to define the project, there’s a clear sense of experimentation – with softer interludes and unapologetic solos to instil a sense of ‘living life on the edge’ while playing homage to feelings of missing out on romance. This alternating style has crafted the ideal formula that ignites a party atmosphere while keeping playful, meaningful and focused on the task at hand – DIY music-making, rough-and-ready creativity and head-banging hard-rock goodness.
Accompanying the releases are two music videos pulled straight from 80’s/90’s MTV, bringing together homemade VHS recordings, vibrant VFX courtesy of GIRL/BOY and a performance that flaunts Jed’s gravity-defying mullet that has gathered quite the attention attention…
‘This music is breathtaking! The guitar is incredible! Not as incredible as that hair though’
With Pleasure Hunt’s latest show taking place at Parade Tattoo Parlour back in April, opening a matinee show that also featured the likes of Bodybag, Complete Snake and The Serfers, we’re keeping our eyes fixed on Pleasure Hunt’s next move…
