The colourful and enigmatic world of Not Richard & Her Majesty has been forged and crafted behind the scenes since teasing their formation back in May ’24. With the release of ‘Everything Explodes’ setting a strong tone for the long anticipated EP ‘Not Hot’, we are finally gifted the full release as of August 1st – and the wait was nothing short of worthwhile. We’re talking warm analogue-baked vocals pointing fondly towards classic rock, but with synth sparkle and saxophone solos adding a fresh flavour – a welcome anomaly in Brighton’s rich music tapestry.

Guided by the expertise of Rich Fownes + his band (including Phoebe Bentham, one half of ambient duo ‘Songe‘), Not Richard is a 5-piece spectacle bringing ‘a diary of personal, professional, sexual, financial & gender ruin’ to life through deeply personal themes emotionally layered under uplifting instrumentals and ’60’s sunshine pop’. Although a challenge to pinpoint, ‘Not Hot’ is certainly FFO the early days of Beck, or King Gizzard’s ‘Nonagon Infinity‘.
A personal favourite, ‘My Mess’, brings pounding high-energy drums and rumbling guitars, while rounding-up the chaotic nature of the track in playful sing-along lyricism and toe-tapping synth runs.
‘Not Hot’ is OUT NOW, and the release will be celebrated at The Hope and Ruin on Friday 15th August with support + a special debut drag performance from @wee.goblin.d
