New Releases – Brighton

City Dog – I Might Die
Deri, Keelan and Aaron recall a near-death encounter during their travels in an unreliable tour van. Loading their newfound trauma into the equally bone-shaking ‘I Might Die’, the trio are on the tail end of a tour infiltrating Finland, Latvia and Estonia with their face-melting sounds. We can confidently announce the alt-rock outfit survived this one, but their tales of ‘rolling to hell’ as they are pursued by an 18-tonne truck leaves little to the imagination.
The result? A thundering anthem just shy of two minutes, instilling a sense of dread with choruses that transport you straight to the front seat…
Fat Lloyd – Moondog Millionaire
The playful sounds of Fat Lloyd bring the skillset of Luke Johns, Matt Cowdry and Connor Gibbons into a heat-packed rock ‘n’ roll pick ‘n’ mix, and the latest single ‘Moondog Millionaire’ is no exception.
Distorted Grooves, filtered vocals and undeniably FAT tones have lifted Fat Lloyd onto the shoulders of Brighton’s grassroots circles in recent months, and with the debut EP ‘Learn From The Dog’ on the horizon, the trio are only just getting started!
Really Big, Really Clever – …huh
The challenging task of a second album is the make-or-break for many, and with the singalong goodness of RBRC’s 2023 self-titled debut, making the long anticipated follow-up hit the spot must’ve been no mean feat…
‘…huh’ latches on the grunge backbone of the quartet and infuses crisp production with a newfound experimentalism. We’re talking whispering intermissions on ‘back door’ and Pop Punk chugs and face-smouldering dissonance on ‘pitiful’ (Our faces looked much like the cover on first listen). With samples peppered into every corner of the album, RBRC have put every ounce of care into making this a hard-hitting addition to an already jam-packed discography, and they’ve certainly ticked the box there – while playing homage to their trademark fast-paced hook-driven style.
Bones Ate Arfa – It’s All Good
Complementing their latest release with a skatepark show, reminiscent of the nostalgic early-2000’s skate punk movement, Bones Ate Arfa are no strangers to a bass heavy mosh-catalyst. ‘It’s All Good’ gets bodies bashing into each other, and the growling cries of frontman Arthur Wilson are enough to draw you in from the first second.
It’s hard to keep up with the movements of the Shoreham Allstars alumni with their release ‘Just Bananas’ generating a hype straight off the bat in January, and more gigs under their belt than they’ve had hot dinners. We can’t get enough of it.
Prom – Envoi/Rebirth
ENVOI/REBIRTH by PROM is Alessandro, Sam and Jack’s most poetic work yet, drowning in emotion with a new sense of space – marking their newest era since the release of their debut album ‘From The Wayside’ back in ’24.
The pained screams of Alessandro bounce effortlessly off Jack’s silky harmonies, and Sam’s tightly-locked drumming flair holds this trio at a vantage point in the growing Brighton Emo scene. Pulling in the expertise of the expertise of @usedglossierlipbalm, @kimb0nes, @tidalwaverecording and @shakenoakstudios, this two-track wonder is the sign of more to come, so strap in and get ready to FEEL.
These tracks are a unquestionable addition to our ‘Best of Brighton’ playlist which can be streamed here!
