The dream schlop, alt-rock debut from 'goodbye'
Brighton five piece goodbye have spent the past year building momentum through word of mouth shows and a steadily growing presence within the city’s grassroots scene – and since our interview back in Dec ’24, they’ve flourished to new heights. Their debut single ‘Meat’ feels less like a cautious introduction and more like a natural extension of what they have already been honing on stage.
The track layers shifting guitar textures over a steady rhythm, with vocals taking the lead while the instruments move around them. ‘Meat’ alternates between quieter, reflective moments and fuller sections, allowing the dynamics to develop naturally without feeling forced.
Lyrically, the single explores objectification and the stripping away of identity. The words are open enough to let listeners interpret them in their own way, giving the track a quiet intensity that matches its musical backdrop. It plaits together ethereal reverb-soaked textures, driving bass and twangy guitar, while keeping things stripped, simple and mesmerising.
Goodbye draw on a range of influences without leaning on any single style. Hazy melodies, rhythmic drive, and intricate guitar interplay come together naturally, reflecting five musicians responding to each other rather than following a predetermined blueprint. The cohesion and timing between Megan, Sarah, Alfie, Jake and Elik gives the song a sense of unity built from their live chemistry.
'Pull my bones out, strip them right down, untie my skin, turn me outside'
As a debut, Meat is a homage to a year of graft and development. The track reflects the band’s growing connection as a unit, and hints at the promise of what they’re capable of as they continue to develop their sound. 2026 is looking tasty, and dream schlop is at the top of the menu.
