Girl Apocrypha x Rankd

5 February 2026· Kristian Floate

After years of laying down the low-end, it's time for Emia to take centre stage in the form of 'Girl Apocrypha'

While Emia has stood alongside the likes of Carne since their formation back in 2025, she has been silently crafting a new project, where she takes a step into the spotlight under the mysterious pseudonym ‘Girl Apocrypha’ – a name that pulls biblical and angelic themes together, defined as ‘writings not forming parts of the accepted cannons of scripture’.  It’s easily deducted that this project won’t conform to the traditional parameters of what a ‘genre’ is, opting for something completely new – and this becomes even clearer on first listen to the debut single ‘Dealer’.

Opening with breathy and softly delivered vocals, tangled amongst a raw bassline and tightly enveloped and distorted synth chords, the track is quick to deepen into a strongly-produced ballad with all the bells-and-whistles to make ‘Dealer’ an impactful introduction to the serene world of Girl Apocrypha.

'I can see your future 'bout clear as it can get, he's a fine fine man but you love him like a pet. Do you wanna burn it down or are you breaking in again? You think I'm sick, I'm sick of you - oh now we're getting somewhere...'

We’re talking chantable lyricism, a steady yet alluring build-up, and instrumentation that makes you want to sit down and learn the riffs by ear. Concerts, Emia is already announcing a string of shows, curating nostalgic visuals and an image that has already made Girl Apocrypha an unmissable force in the newest cohort of Brighton-born artists.

Recorded at Brighton Electric with the likes of Jag Jago (Maccabees, Ten Tones and Jamie T), Ben Gibson and Nathan Hayward, with visuals lovingly curated by Lottie (@disturbi.art), ‘Dealer’ is a labour of love that leaves us itching for what’s next.
