Christian Le Surf x Rankd

Christian's album hat-trick - 'The True Comment' is out now!
Following up from 2021’s debut ‘Bontempi Cher Lloyd 1999’ and ‘Chicago, The Moon!’, Christian Le Surf’s third LP offering ‘The True Comment’ unpicks retrospective acoustic song writing and wraps up years of growth, development and musical maturity over 9 years since his first release. Threading together sweeping ambient soundscapes in ‘Life Without Blemish’ and minimalistic campfire ballads reminiscent of Jake Bugg in the opening track ‘I Hold Your Blood’, Christian immediately pulls listeners into the genre-blending nature of the project, and reminds them not to settle for one sound, genre or musical identity.
A personal favourite, ‘King of the Wood’, sets a foundation of thundering drums and high-energy instrumentation, paired lovingly with Christian’s powerful vocal delivery clad in raw, unfiltered emotion. Building up with harmony and intensity comparable to Pinegrove, Christian infuses his work with a sense of space, experimentalism and clarity, while incorporating lyricism that is poetic and thought-provoking in nature, leaving questions that spark curiosity into the unique creative process of Christian Le Surf:
‘I swim, I run, I walk to the common. The Ditchling sing, the hill is burgled. Bow down before your king, hold her thumb so you can swing‘…
With recurring themes of politics, heartbreak, nature and self-reflection – Christian pursues a sense of nostalgia that lands effortlessly into the lap of the listener from track one.
With a recent intimate release show on March 20th at The Folklore Rooms, supported by Collect Call and Tyler Nathaniel, Christian Le Surf’s latest offering has had a wholly positive reception in Brighton and beyond, securing radio airplay and solidifying the album as a welcome addition to Christian’s growing musical discography.
