[BRICK] - a new, and necessary force in the hardcore realm

[BRICK] have propelled themselves into the spotlight, accessorised with fury-laden transfeminist hardcore at an essential time – driven to fight back and pioneer a space for experimentalism and eccentricity to thrive. Releasing their demo in physical form via Death Before Detransition, the Brighton-born 5-piece have curated a sonic journey exploring themes of trans identity, queerness and resistance to authority – and we’re left eagerly waiting for more in ’26.

While downloadable via [BRICK]’S Bandcamp, their online presence is predominantly found via their own website, where the tracks ‘Brick’, ‘Book of Dead Names’, ‘T4T Dyke Lover’, ‘Existential Switch’ and ‘Cop’ are refreshingly available without a paywall – making the band’s discography accessible, affordable and unmissable. Opening the EP with an impactful self-titled one-minute anthem, we are pulled into the true meaning behind the name [BRICK], and the material pressures of gender. While ‘Brick’ is a slur invented by and for the community, a derogatory term used to describe a trans woman that ‘shatters the illusion of femininity’, the band are highlighting the synonymous connection of bricks with safety, violence and shelter – embeding this into their identity as an outfit band driving change through the medium of sound.

With tracks passing in short bursts and playing homage to punk, thrash and hardcore,  [BRICK] are shining a piercing light on their lyricism, and making listeners view their tracks under a microscopic lens. With ‘Cop’ pointing the barrel towards those actively discriminating against trans identity, amplified by 2025’s Supreme Court ruling that [BRICK] mark as ‘gendercidal’, the band are creating a striking and turbulent archive of emotion, rage and f**king fury at a time where the trans community needs it most.

I’m no crossdresser / It’s no business of yours how I f**k / You’re just a gatekeeper / Telling me I’ll never be enough.

In October 2025, the transfeminist hardcore outfit took their message to the streets,  graviting over to the detested ‘FiLiA’ conference, performing and uniting queer activists and their allies in a space where hate and discrimination tried to seep into our city. [BRICK] aren’t just churning out tracks for their own benefit, they’re actively demonstrating and pushing for better, while putting on unforgettable shows simultaneously.

Their next shows can be found on their website that also boasts an inforhizome of links to transfeminist reading – aptly connected to the transfeminist reading group where the 5-piece met.
