John Seaton is keeping his head above the water with his second album 'SINK'
Sussex musician John Seaton has released his second album “SINK”, a guitar-driven and reverb-layered record that pushes his sound into a more expansive and reflective space. Across ten tracks, Seaton uses the idea of drowning to explore creative pressure and the feeling of being overwhelmed. What began as a light joke about avoiding a “tread water” second album developed into a theme that shaped the full project.
“It started as a bit of a joke, really”, John says. “Not wanting to ‘tread water’ on your second record. It then evolved into something much more meaningful between me and everyone who helped make it”.
The album was recorded at Giant Wafer Studios in Wales, where filmmaker George Bennett documented the sessions. His film, also titled “SINK”, follows Seaton, the band and the production team with a mix of humour and close-up detail. It premieres on a houseboat in Shoreham on 4 December.
A standout moment comes with “The Tide”, a track built on bold piano lines, thick guitars and a solid rhythm section that gives the song its drive. Earlier singles “Borrowed Time” and “Electricity” introduced the tone of the record, each showing the fuller and more textured approach that runs from start to finish. The opening track “Ocean Floor” is a personal favourite – a striking opener built on the captivating melody of a muted trumpet.
Described as “a cross between Spinal Tap and The UK Office”, the documentary offers an immersive insight into the writing + recording process, an unfiltered dive into how ‘SINK’ came to life in the rural arms of the Mid Wales Countryside.
“SINK” is now available on all major streaming platforms. Follow more from John here!
